After a long wait following their loss on “Thursday Night Football”, the Detroit Lions return home to Ford Field to host the New York Jets. Former defensive coordinator and now head coach Aaron Glenn arrived after an overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Both teams wanted to get the bad taste of last week out of their mouths.
Last week I went 1-2 again, and wide receiver Jameson Williams was two catches from hitting that bet. This week I’m starting something a little different: odds just for bold bets, plus parlay odds if you combine them all.
Here are three bets to watch on Sunday afternoon. The odds are at FanDuel Sportsbook.
1. Lions -6.5 spread (-115)
Of all the bets here, this is the simplest. The Lions are favorites to win, and the spread is set at 6.5, which looks about right for this matchup. Detroit is at home, coming off a bad loss, and the team plays better after a loss. They also have an extra break, with their Week 2 game on Thursday, while the Jets are on the road after an overtime loss.
Detroit’s secondary has been rough in two games so far, but this week is their chance to bounce back. The Jets are down to tight end Mason Taylor, and starting wide receiver Adonai Mitchell is currently in a cast dealing with a finger injury. With the Jets’ main targets in the passing game being wide receiver Garrett Wilson and tight end Kenyon Sadiq, I think Detroit will take advantage and keep the offense in check.
Detroit’s offense is tough to stop, averaging 31 points a game so far this season, and I think they’ll put up nearly the same number again this week. With the Lions’ offense struggling to slow down and the Jets’ passing attack depleted by injury, Detroit’s lead was too big to come back and cover New York.
Bet potential winnings: $10 -> $18.70
2. Jared Goff Over 258.5 passing yards (-113)
Despite the Jets allowing the second fewest passing yards in the league (285 total), they have never faced an offense like Detroit’s. The Titans offense is still young and working things out, and the Packers are dealing with injuries. The Lions offense is mostly healthy and, despite having a new offensive coordinator in Drew Petzing, has a dangerous passing attack. Wide receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Williams, and Isaac TeSlaa, along with tight end Sam LaPorta and running back Jahmyr Gibbs—that’s a lot to worry about for a defense.
The Jets were the first team in NFL history last season to not record an interception, and part of that was a lack of skill in the secondary. They traded their star cornerback Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner in 2025, and even though they added safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, he is still sidelined with an injury. Goff threw for over 300 yards against the Bills, granted they were playing from behind the entire game, but the Bills defense was no slouch either. I believe Goff will jump this line and have a day against this Jets secondary.
Bet potential winnings: $10 -> $18.85
3. Jahmyr Gibbs over 89.5 rushing yards (-113)
Again, the Jets’ defense is their strength, but while the passing game will work for Detroit, it will open up the running game. While Gibbs ran for just 52 yards against Buffalo, largely because the team fell behind early, the opposite will be the case this week. The Lions’ offense also struggled last week with injuries to starting left guard Christian Mahogany and right tackle Blake Miller. They both returned this week, leaving center Juice Scruggs as the only backup lineman playing.
New York hasn’t seen a running back like Gibbs so far this season. The Tennessee Titans’ best running back is Tony Pollard, and without Josh Jacobs, the Packers have MarShawn Lloyd as their top option. Neither of those players is close to what Gibbs was, not only as a running back but as a receiver. Gibbs has been the lifeblood of the offense so far this season, and Detroit will continue to make sure he’s the focal point and run him more than 20 times a game.
Bet potential winnings: $10 -> $18.85
If you want to turn these three single bets into a consistent parlay, the odds are +504 and $10 -> $50.50
If you want to be brave and build a big parlay that can pay off well, combine these three bets into one parlay:
- Jameson Williams anytime touchdown (+160)
- Sam LaPorta 5+ catches (-118)
- Jared Goff 2+ passing touchdowns (-198)
Although he has yet to find the end zone this season, I think Williams will look for it this week against the Jets secondary. He had a slow start to the season, struggling with drops in Week 1, and only getting two catches in Week 2. It was difficult to stop Williams for a long time; eventually he gets one out, and Goff has a chance to throw to him, but either Williams drops it, or Goff doesn’t catch the play in time.
Speaking of Goff, he’s averaging three touchdown passes a game this season, so for him to throw just two seems simple. The Jets defense has allowed three passing touchdowns so far, so while it will be difficult for opposing quarterbacks to find the end zone, as I mentioned earlier, there is a lot of firepower in this offense that should be contained, and I think Detroit’s offense has its day.
Goff also loved having LaPorta in the lineup, catching 11 passes for 100 yards and a touchdown. He averages 5.5 catches a game, so for him to meet his average seems doable. The Jets linebackers led by DeMario Davis won’t make it easy for him, but as a friendly checkdown for Goff, he can get five catches easily, I believe.
Bet potential winnings: $10 -> $43.59
If you want to combine all six plays into a parlay and go big or go home, here are the odds:
- The lions scattered
- Jared Goff over 258.5 passing yards
- Jahmyr Gibbs over 89.5 rushing yards
- Jameson Williams anytime touchdown
- Sam LaPorta 5+ catches
- Jared Goff 2+ passing touchdowns
Potential bet winnings: $10 -> $259.04
