Looks like a change is needed for the Las Vegas Raiders to stop the bleeding. Does that mean a move on from Kirk Cousins to rookie Fernando Mendoza? That’s still up in the air, though the Raiders suffered their fourth straight loss Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nev..
Cousins doesn’t seem against the idea of a QB switch to Las Vegas, as long as it’s the “best option.”
“If I’m not the best option, I don’t want to be out there either. I want our football team to have the best chance to win games,” Cousins said following the Rams game, via Sam Warren of The Athletic.
“I feel that Fernando has done a great job and has a bright future, and I’m going to go out there and play as much as I can, help us win and give him a good example to learn from until he gets out there eventually.
The 28-year-old Cousins wasn’t exactly terrible against the Rams, throwing for 295 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 26/44 pass completions.
On the season, the four-time Pro Bowler has 1,877 passing yards and 16 touchdowns against five interceptions on a 62.6% pass completion rate in seven starts.
The Raiders may wait until after the season before handing the starting job to Mendoza, with Cousins only signing a one-year, $11.3 million contract with the team in April.
But Mendoza’s chances of getting the starting gig grew amid the Raiders’ struggles.
Las Vegas started the season with a three-game winning streak before falling to a losing streak that the Raiders will look to end in Week 8 against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ
