It wasn’t pretty — and it was the Titans’ only winless streak — but Jameis Winston won his first game as a starter since Dec. 15, 2024, when he was with the Browns.
His 119 passing yards were enough for a 12-7 win and enough for him to keep the starting job, no matter who the Giants add to the position this week.
“Yes. Yes, I do“said coach John Harbaugh when asked if he believed Winston would remain the team’s starter, via ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. “Yes, I would.”
Winston replaces starter Jaxson Dart, who is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery on Friday.
On a wet, windy day, the Giants went with a conservative game plan, and Winston had no turnovers. Coach John Harbaugh said Winston did “what was needed.”
“Plans are plans. The opportunities you have are the opportunities you have,” Harbaugh said. “Regardless, we will do our best to make our team as strong as we can based on what options we have.”
Jake Haener served as Winston’s backup against the Titans. The Giants are expected to add a veteran this week, with Jimmy Garoppolo, Gardner Minshew and JJ McCarthy among the options.
“I’m not worried about that. I don’t care about that,” offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said. “James is our quarterback now. We’re going to ride him for the rest of the season.”
