Detroit Lions linebacker Jack Campbell made his first comments through the team on Wednesday after suffering a neck injury Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
“I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short amount of time. I have full range of motion in my lower body, and I’m continuing to progress with range of motion in my upper body,” Campbell said in a statement. “I know there’s still work to do, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one step at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.”
Campbell was injured in the second half when he tackled Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson. He was taken off the field on a cart and immediately taken to Henry Ford Hospital, where he remains to rest and recover.
“My faith in God has never been stronger,” he continued. “I know He has a plan for me, and I trust that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we will get through it.
“I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and took care of me on the field. I know those moments were difficult, and I am very grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and took care of me when I needed it is something I will never forget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Shortly after Campbell’s statement, Lions coach Dan Campbell spoke to reporters before Lions practice.
“Being able to hear it from him, that means a lot,” Campbell said. “That’s powerful in itself, more than hearing it from me or anybody else. Those are his and his family’s words, so that’s powerful and I know that always helps to know that he’s getting better because at this point, that’s all you’re looking for — is just to know that he’s getting better and this thing, this status, changes every eight hours, 10 hours, you know, in a good way, you know?
