With the Minnesota Vikings bringing in a bunch of wide receivers recently, some people. . .your true companion. . .wondering why. The Vikings do, it seems, have a lot of talent at wide receiver, but it appears that one of those players may be coming out after a bit of a rough patch early this season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the trade market for Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings is expected to “heat up” before the league’s trade deadline, which is November 10.
The Vikings signed Jennings to a one-year contract worth up to $13 million in May, and it’s hard to imagine how the deal has been more of a disappointment so far. In his first four games (he missed the game against Chicago to deal with a family issue), he was targeted just nine times and had just two receptions for nine yards. That makes him less productive than players like Tai Felton, Myles Price, DeeJay Dallas, and Gavin Bartholomew. I don’t have the math in front of me, but I’d be surprised if those four players combined are slated to make as much this season as Jennings.
According to a tweet made by the folks at Spotrac, trading Jennings away would have a $5.4 million cap hit for the Vikings this season and a $4.4 million cap hit for whichever team acquires him. Not crippled, by any stretch, but it’s not a small amount or anything like that, either. I’m also not sure how much Jennings would get in a trade at this point, but the signs certainly seem to point to him not being a member of the Vikings much longer.
What do you think, folks? Will Jauan Jennings still be a member of this team at the trade deadline? Will he still be a member of the Vikings when they return from the bye week? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
