Analysis of the Eagles vs. Bears
Caleb Williams is out for a few weeks, which makes for an interesting handicap here. However, it’s important to note that Ben Johnson is arguably the best play caller in the NFL, meaning there’s a good chance this offense looks good. Chicago also has some good backups, as both Tyson Bagent and Case Keenum have started games in this league. That said, if you’re looking at this game and thinking the Eagles are the easy play, you might want to think again. And, according to our betting divisions at Circa Sports, most of the public feels it’s an honest game. That’s rarely a good thing for most.
Chicago also happens to be 3-1 against the spread as a home underdog under Johnson, and the team is also 3-1 both straight-up and ATS from a division loss under him. I tend to think we’ll see an inspired effort from the Bears here. However, for my money, Over is the best play you can make on this one.
I know the Eagles don’t like to involve themselves in shootouts, but do they really have a choice here? Chicago is currently No. 21 in the NFL in EPA/Play Allowed (0.042), so Philadelphia will be able to move the ball in this one. That means the Eagles will put up a good amount of points. But I also see what the Bears are doing. Even without Williams, we’re talking about a Chicago team with a stacked group of skill position players. Keenum also happens to be a player who has started playoff games before.
I just look at it as a game where we’re overreacting to the Williams news, and the numbers are just too low for two teams with great players on offense. Under Nick Sirianni, the Eagles are 8-6 in Over when playing in games that average 35.5 and 42 points. The Over is also 2-0 when the Bears play after a home loss under Johnson.
As long as the weather cooperates — and it looks like it should — I expect at least 42 points in this game.
Eagles Player Props vs. Bears
Case Keenum Over 1.5 Passing Touchdowns (+210 – 0.5 units)
Considering the lean Bears and the Over play, I clearly think Keenum can do some damage in the air. Johnson may have a run-heavy game plan in place, but Keenum is sure to hit someone. I also think he can do off the run in the red zone. At +210 odds, I think it’s worth taking a chance on him to throw for a little two touchdowns.
Eagles vs. Bears Pick
I fully understand how important Williams is to the Bears offense, but we’ve seen worse backups come in and handle their business before. Chicago has two great ones for this exact situation, and I think Keenum can deliver with the pieces he has around him. So, I’m leaning the Bears in this game, but I’m playing the Over. It may not look good, but the number is too low to delete.
Bet: Over 41.5 (-105 – 1.5 unit) and Keenum Over 1.5 Passing Touchdown (+210 – 0.5 unit)
