Why didn’t Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni opt for a touchback?
The coach wants him out after his misstep cost the Eagles a 19-17 Week 5 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. With eighteen seconds left and Philadelphia leading 17-16, Sirianni let Jacksonville put it back. The decision backfired.
Jaguars running back Ameer Abdullah returned it 53 yards to the Eagles’ 39-yard line and was tackled with one second left. Kicker Cam Little then drilled a 57-yard field goal, clinching the win for Jacksonville.
Nick Sirianni talks kicking decisions
“I cost us that game. That one’s on me,” the coach said before refusing to explain his reasoning for not kicking the touchback. “There’s no way around it … I just didn’t do my job in that situation.”
