The Columbine High School football community is mourning the unexpected loss of a freshman football player Noah Vesichwho died on September 23 at the age of 14.
Vesich’s family and the Columbine football program confirmed his passing, with the football team describing him as a bright student-athlete and a shining light to those around him. A cause of death has not been released publicly.
In the days following his death, Vesich’s teammates and coaches came together to remember a young man who made a lasting impact on the Columbine football family.
Remembered as the Heart of the Team
Vesich played primarily running back for Columbine’s freshman football team.
According to 9NEWS, his teammates and head freshman football coach Dave Lee remembered him as funny, energetic, hardworking and caring for his teammates.
He is also described as “the heart” of the team — a reflection of his impact despite being a freshman.
For his teammates, football is more than just a game. It provided a place where they could form friendships, compete together and support each other.
Following Vesich’s passing, the sense of brotherhood became even more important.
Columbine Football is Together
Columbine Football announced Vesich’s death on social media, asking the community to keep his family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
His teammates continue to celebrate his life and remember the personality he brought to the team.
Students also honored Vesich at Columbine’s varsity football game, many wearing white in his memory.
The moments served as reminders of how deeply Vesich affected those around him.
Family Seeking Support
A GoFundMe campaign was set up by a loved one to help Vesich’s family with funeral expenses and other expenses after his death.
The family described themselves as going through a very painful time and expressed gratitude for the support, prayers and kindness offered by the community.
Vesich’s obituary stated that he was from Lakewood, Coloradoand that visitation is scheduled for Oct. 2, followed by a funeral service on Oct. 3 at Red Rocks Church-Littleton.
A Young Life Remembered
Noah Vesich is only 14 years old, but the memories shared by his teammates and coaches show the kind of impact he had in his short time on the Columbine football program.
He is not only remembered for what he did on the football field.
He was remembered for his personality.
His strength.
His work ethic.
His willingness to take care of his teammates.
And the joy he brings to those around him.
For a freshman football team, losing a teammate is hard enough. The loss of someone described as the heart of the team deepens the loss.
