Key to Rams vs. Eagles matchup
The Rams need to start asserting themselves if they are going to live up to expectations. While their opener loss to the 49ers in Australia is somewhat understandable — head coach Sean McVay’s team has barely had any prep time Down Under — losing to the Broncos is not the way championship teams play.
The Rams played an outstanding first half and took a 16-0 halftime lead but were outscored 30-10 in the second half. Simply put, the Broncos loved the game and outplayed the Rams.
That shouldn’t happen again, and the Rams will have dynamic receiver Puka Nacua back in the lineup. As long as there are no recurrences of the hip and groin problems that have kept him out of the last two games, he should partner with QB Matthew Stafford and make a lot of key plays.
The combination of Nacua and fellow wideout Davante Adams should be dangerous throughout the game.
The Eagles have a lot to prove after getting hammered by the Bears. Jalen Hurts was under pressure throughout and was limited to 153 passing yards and did not throw a TD pass. If Hurts is going to be productive, his offensive line needs to be at its best. DeVonta Smith is out of the lineup, so it will be up to WRs Dontayvion Wicks and Makai Lemon to get the job done.
Saquon Barkley won’t have to compete with Aaron Donald, but running against the Rams’ front will be a big challenge. The Eagles were held to 107 rushing yards against the Bears, and they likely won’t do much better in this game.
Rams vs. Eagles guess and choose
The Eagles have just dominated this series with 10 wins in the last 11 meetings, so this should give the home team some confidence. The Eagles brought a 2-1 record into this game, but their two victories were by narrow margins against the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans.
The pressure is on head coach Nick Sirianni to prepare his team for a team capable of playing at an elite level.
The Rams know they have a team capable of dominating at any time. They cannot allow eastbound travel with an early start time (10 am Pacific Time) to serve as any kind of excuse. They need to get the jump in the first half and then extend the lead in the second half, something that didn’t happen in Week 3 against the Broncos.
The Rams need to use this game as a jumping-off point for the rest of the season.
Prediction: Rams 27 (-3.5), Eagles 20. The Rams got the cover and the game went over a total of 42.5 points.
