As the Seattle Seahawks prepare for a crucial NFC West contest with the Arizona Cardinals, they will be dealing with a boatload of injuries, according to Wednesday’s estimated injury report.
The Seahawks had six players who missed practice due to injury, including quarterback Sam Darnold, left tackle Charles Cross and star defensive tackle Leonard Williams. “Big Cat” was held out with a stinger he suffered Monday night against the Chicago Bears and will be a huge setback for the team, especially in the run game. Nose tackle Brandon Pili also didn’t practice with a back injury, leaving Seattle thin at the position and facing a hot running back in Tyler Allgeier.
With Darnold out, Seahawks Mike Macdonald indicated that backup Drew Lock will start in his place. Lock has been battling an elbow injury for the last three weeks, inactive in their last two games, and was again limited in practice Wednesday with a right elbow injury. If Lock can’t go, second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe will have to step in to make his first NFL start, which will be as comforting as it will be stressful.
Staying on offense, newly acquired star guard Quenton Nelson has been limited by a knee injury, as has backup Anthony Bradford. With Josh Jones set to start another week at left tackle, more offensive line injuries are the last thing Seahawks fans want to see.
While wide receiver Rashid Shaheed has been held out of practice and appears on track to miss his second straight game, his backup Tory Horton is completely out with a hand injury. Take the good news where you can get it!
The report proves to be a mixed bag for the Seahawks defense. Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who missed last week, is limited with an ankle injury, and Nick Emmanwori is a full participant with a shoulder injury. The two returning form in the lineup will be a big help for a “Dark Side” defense that is reeling from giving up 34 points on Monday.
For the Cardinals, breakout wide receiver Michael Wilson has been limited in practice by rest and a rib injury, which could give him a chance to play Sunday. Wilson broke two ribs and put up 111 yards and a touchdown on eight catches in Arizona’s win over the Dallas Cowboys last week. Defensive tackle Walter Nolen is also limited with an ankle injury.
Arizona likely won’t get back Bam Knight, who will back up Allgeier, because he missed Wednesday’s practice due to a concussion. The Cardinals held stars Budda Baker and Josh Sweat out of practice, but it was not injury related.
