The Detroit Lions (4-2) and Minnesota Vikings (6-0) declared their injury designations ahead of their Week 8 matchup at Ford Field, and as expected, Lions All-Pro safety Kerby Joseph was ruled out because he’s not ready for game action. Additionally, Lions starting cornerback Roger McCreary was added to the injury report on Friday and is listed as questionable.
Let’s take a look at Friday’s injury report and bring you up to date with what we know.
Note: Any changes from the most recent damage report will be in bold.
Joseph returned to practice Wednesday and slowly acclimated back to football activities, sticking to individual and group drills in the first few practices.
“He did a good job,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said at his press conference Friday. “It’s good so far. Now there again, we have not taken any team reps. It’s all been individual and group. But he’s handled that well. That was kind of the point. We just progress him slowly here, work him in. We get him a little bit more today of that type of work. Plus, we surplus after the fact. We still do some rehabilitation, get him some of those miles right; get him some of those miles right; And then next week we’ll have him in real training.
It’s also worth noting that Joseph was seen wearing a compression sleeve on his knee, but Campbell said those are often used to prevent or reduce swelling and reminded people that Joseph is still in the “infant stages” of this acclimation process.
McCreary was added to the injury report on Friday, and it is unclear when his injury occurred. With so little information, we’ll have to wait for the team to announce any further updates between this report and game time. If McCreary can’t play, look for Ennis Rakestraw to start at outside corner.

All players in this section were limited or did not practice earlier in the week but returned to full practice Thursday and Friday—save Rakestraw—and did not require an injury designation for Sunday’s game. They left early.
Rakestraw was limited most of the week, but it looks like he will play this weekend. He became a key part of the Lions defensive back rotation, running as CB3 and starting cornerback responsibilities most of the time the Lions were in subpackage sets.
