The Seattle Seahawks injury report on Friday was like a trick-or-treating outing with some candy, some raisins and a lot of scares.
Starting on the troubling side, the Seahawks look to play the Chicago Bears on Monday night without starting left tackle Charles Cross, who was injured last week, and edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu. Both Cross and Nwosu did not participate in practice on Thursday, and the same was true on Friday.
The loss of Cross should mean more time for swing tackle Josh Jones, while the loss of Nwosu could be big for a pass rush that has gotten inconsistent pressure on four rushers. Nwosu is great at slowing down quarterbacks leaving the pocket, so look for the Seahawks to blitz Monday against Caleb Williams.
While Seattle received good news regarding Leonard Williams, who returned to practice in full after being limited Thursday with an Achilles injury, all is not well in their defensive tackle room. Fellow star defensive lineman Byron Murphy was added to the injury report with a back injury that kept him limited on Friday. The backup to the two, Brandon Pili, also did not practice on Friday due to a back injury.
Seattle will likely be without wide receiver Rashid Shaheed, who missed his second straight day of practice Friday. The team will certainly lean on Tory Horton to step up to fill the void that is felt, both on offense and on special teams.
Back on the positive side of things, the Seahawks offense looks to be getting some help in the running back room before Monday night. Rookie Jadarian Price was a full participant in practice after returning from an IR stint. Price’s return couldn’t come at a better time, as Zach Charbonnet is limited with a knee injury and backup Velus Jones Jr. did not practice Friday due to a hamstring injury.
Linebacker Drake Thomas is nearing a return to the lineup as he is back in full swing in practice after missing several games with an ankle injury. The linebacking core continues to change as Tyrice Knight is limited, while Chazz Surratt is a full participant and Patrick O’Connell missed Friday’s practice.
