I’m surprised the Glazers and Jason Licht were stupid enough to extend Baker Mayfield. Perhaps Licht didn’t want to do it, and the Glazers forced him to re-sign Mayfield. Ultimately, the Glazers failed to learn the lessons of Russell Wilson (Broncos), Kirk Cousins (Falcons), Tua Tagovailoa (Dolphins), and Kyler Murray (Cardinals), among others. The contract could force the Bucs to pass on a young quarterback and hang on to declining turnover machine Mayfield. Tampa Bay could use help throughout their roster, including more edge rush talent. YaYa Diaby, Al-Quadin Muhammad, and Rueben Bain have struggled so far in 2026.
Simmons had 13 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in 2026. In 2025, Simmons had 43 tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two passes broken up. In 2024, Simmons had a solid debut for Texas and showed serious pass-rush ability with nine sacks. He also had three forced fumbles, 48 tackles, two passes defended, and one interception. Simmons (6-3, 245) has upside and could be even better after gaining experience.
