Seahawks injury update: Drake Thomas, Zach Charbonnet ruled out against Broncos

The curse of the short week has hit the Seattle Seahawks ahead of their Thursday night showdown with the Denver Broncos, as the team will be without one of their starting linebackers.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald waived linebacker Drake Thomas, Zach Charbonnet and linebacker Chazz Surratt on Wednesday. Thomas, who appeared as Ernest Jones IV’s partner in crime in 2025, is recovering from an ankle injury he suffered late in the second quarter against the San Francisco 49ers last week.

In place of the injured Thomas, Macdonald said the team will lean on the team’s 2024 fourth-round pick Tyrice Knight. The UTEP product had several stints in the starting lineup throughout his three years with the Seahawks, but didn’t find the field much and recorded just one tackle in 2026.

Charbonnet continues his ACL rehab and will not return for the crucial game against the Broncos. The Seahawks running backs were sorely missed last week, but fans are hoping for a bounce-back week from Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani, who struggled against the 49ers. Velus Jones Jr. appears. the other running back option after the Seahawks added him to their active roster on Wednesday.

There could be positive news on Charbonnet soon, at least according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who reported there’s a “legitimate chance” the Seahawks bounce back in Week 7.

Surratt mostly serves as a special teams player, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team elevate wide receiver Irv Charles from the practice squad to bolster that unit and give them more flexibility at the position.

A mostly healthy Seahawks team will head to Denver and look to get back on track this Thursday at 5:15 pm
