Commanders news: Dan Quinn addresses fan confidence after loss

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn watched his team lose in Week 5 to the Giants and responded to the fan’s confidence.

Monday was a tough one for Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn. And he still doesn’t seem to be getting cold feet. Still, Quinn addressed fan confidence after a brutal Week 5 finish against the Giants, according to an X post by Scott Abraham.

“Scott Abraham @Scott7news: The Washington Commanders have just 3 wins in their last 17 games. I asked head coach Dan Quinn about the fan base losing faith in him. He told me, ‘I’m pissed off too, Scott. I’m really looking forward to getting back on the field Monday night.’ ”

Quinn and the Commanders squandered a chance to kick a potential game-winning field goal in overtime. Jayden Daniels came down the field of play with the Commanders with no time left. The game ended in a 27-27 tie.

Washington moved to 1-3-1 on the season and remained in last place in the NFC East.

Commanders HC Dan Quinn seems to be on thin ice

Some analysts think Quinn won’t be able to keep his job after this big mistake, according to NBC Sports.

“Some suggested Sunday’s colossal mistake sealed Quinn’s fate at the end of the year,” Mike Florio wrote. “Well-functioning organizations, however, will implement the decision the moment it’s made, if only to start the search process for the next coach. Really, what’s the point of prolonging the situation?

“In particular, any effort by Quinn to turn a 1-3-1 season into a playoff berth will be complicated by the task of getting the locker room to do anything but roll their eyes when it comes time to listen to Quinn. The sooner the organization turns the page on the man responsible for the worst finish to a game since the Joe Pisarcik moment in 1978, the sooner the team can move on.”

Stephen A. Smith has joined the chorus of calls for the Commanders to cut Quinn, according to ESPN’s First Acquisition via Heavy.com.

“Like you know in your football, I know an impending sack when I see one,” Smith said. “I know me some Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson. I know him. I am telling you right now, Dan Quinn lost his support in that room. It’s over.”
