Kenny Gainwell interview: Buccaneers must stay calm to overcome 0-3 start

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t panicking.

Nobody wants to start three games without a win, and unfortunately for the Bucs they are 0-3 right now. Complicating matters is that they lost quarterback Baker Mayfield for a bit to a thumb injury which means they will likely lean on the ground game.

Gainwell gained notoriety throughout his NFL career for his stints in Pennsylvania with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. This past offseason he chose to sign with the Buccaneers and provide a 1-2 punch with Bucky Irving, and as mentioned Tampa will need that for this upcoming stretch.

Recently Kenny was kind enough to join me for a chat about this Bucs season and a few other topics.

Gainwell noted that the key is to keep things calm and maintain focus moving forward. You can only climb out of an 0-3 hole one at a time, and it seems like he’s going to help his teammates try and do it.

Kenny has a history of being close to some great coaches, including a personal favorite of mine in Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham, so it’s clear that his sense of calm comes from having experienced the trials that football can offer. You have to be ready for anything that is thrown in your way of the game and it is clear that Kenny is. I hope the Buccaneers do the same.

In addition to a stubborn head on his shoulders, Kenny has a great smile to boot. The folks at Oral-B and Crest are helping to do this. As the NFL’s Official Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Floss and Mouthwash, Oral-B and Crest are giving fans even more ways to celebrate their love of the game with new special edition products featuring seven fan-favorite NFL teams.

Both the Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys, the team I’m covering here, are represented in this group. Kenny and I made a fun little bet on next week’s Buccaneers/Cowboys game (on Thursday night) where the loser gets to brush with the winner’s team’s toothbrush and toothpaste. These are the types of bets where everyone wins.

Thanks to Kenny and Oral-B and Crest for the time. I hope all the Buccaneers are smiling by the time Halloween hits… except for that Cowboys game.
