Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell gave some injury updates in his press conference Monday afternoon, and it was mostly good news.
Campbell said they expect St. Brown for Wednesday’s practice, but they hope he’ll be okay and hope he’ll be ready to go for Thursday.
“Him and Ennis (Rakestraw), I think those guys will probably sit out Wednesday, but the plan is to bring them in Thursday, and I think they’ll be fine. They should be fine,” Campbell said, before adding. “Now, we’ll see when we get there, but—yeah.”
St. Brown is coming off his best game of the season, hauling in nine catches for a season-high 153 yards. That was the fifth most yards he had in a game for his career. Obviously, losing him is a big deal, but Campbell isn’t too worried right now.
The Lions expect the same trajectory for cornerback Ennis Rakestraw, who left the game early with an ankle injury.
“It’s not major, he’s got a little ankle here,” Campbell said. “We feel, as of right now, he has practice on Thursday. That’s what we’re looking at. But we feel, he’s not a major yet.”
Rakestraw was part of a massive cornerback rotation against the Packers. Rakestraw (21 snaps) shared playing time with DJ Reed (61), Roger McCreary (67), Rock Ya-Sin (14), and Khalil Dorsey (14). It’s a game plan inspired by the Dallas Cowboys’ offense against the Packers to keep players fresh. Campbell said it’s a strategy they’ll continue to consider moving forward.
“I think there’s also merit to some of those guys’ plays,” Campbell said. “Let them all play, get some reps and use them in different situations, different packages.”
