Anthony Richardson should be the future of the Indianapolis Colts. The former No. 4 overall pick lost the starting job to Daniel Jones last year, and is now a backup on one of the worst teams in football. Jones has struggled so much this season, that some believe Richardson could get another chance. Unfortunately for Richardson, a recent off-field arrest won’t help his chances.
Richardson was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession Friday morning, according to FOX59 in Indy. The charges stem from a traffic stop on Oct. 12 when Richardson was pulled over for expired registration, and officers smelled weed in his vehicle. Richardson told police he smoked in the car to avoid doing so in front of his children, and a small mason jar with flowers and THC edibles was found in his possession.
Indiana is one of the few states where pot is completely illegal for both recreational and medical use. If Richardson had played at Michigan or Illinois, he would have been able to buy weed on almost any corner. In Indiana, it can get you arrested.
The Colts are on the road the next two games to face the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars before a home date with the Dallas Cowboys.
Head coach Shane Steichen is clearly on the hot seat in Indianapolis after GM Chris Ballard was fired earlier this week. The news just keeps getting worse for the Colts, and Richardson’s arrest is the latest example.
