The Las Vegas Raiders suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, dropping a thrilling 30-27 decision to the Kansas City Chiefs. As is the case with any close, one-score game, there are always some plays that you can look back on with regret if you were on the other side of it.
One of the big things for the Raiders will be head coach Klint Kubiak’s decision to take three points off the board following a Chiefs penalty to try to get a first down.
It failed.
His team lost by three points.
Klint Kubiak took points on the board in the name of being aggressive
Here’s the situation: With the Raiders leading 13-10 on the opening drive of the third quarter, Matt Gay made a 41-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 16-10 lead.
The Chiefs, however, were assessed a five-yard penalty for an illegal formation.
Instead of declining the penalty and taking a 16-10 lead, Kubiak decided to accept the penalty and turn the 4th-and-7 into a very long 4th-and-2 and go for it.
It failed, as the Raiders returned the ball on downs.
Missed three points will be costly.
Kubiak said after the game that they knew they were going to try to be aggressive on Sunday, and he regretted not falling first more than he did going into it.
